Dinosaurs! part 1
We kicked off the summer with a dinosaur-themed family vacation at the end of May! Hanna and Zane had to miss a couple days of school because Kory started teaching summer term before their school year ended. They didn't mind missing class, and the weather was just about perfect, so it was a great time to go.
On the first day we drove down to Provo, UT, and visited BYU's Museum of Paleontology. It was a pretty cool museum, despite its small size.

The museum is located right across the street from the football stadium, which really impressed the kids.
While we were in Provo we drove by Kory's and my first apartment we lived in after we were married. The apartment is actually the back part of the house.

We stayed in a Super8 that night and enjoyed the indoor pool & hot tub, as well as the continental breakfast. The next day we drove south to the USU Prehistoric Museum in Price. This place was awesome! There was so much to see that Zac was brought to tears because he couldn't seem to look at and read every exhibit and keep up with the family!
They had a neat children's area with places to dig for fossils, color pictures, build puzzles, get eaten by a fierce dinosaur, etc. All the good stuff.
The kids all had to waste spend their money in the gift shop on the way out. Then we headed farther south to visit the Cleveland-Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry. I wasn't as impressed with this place, compared with others we visited (more expensive admission for what little they have, and quite a drive out of your way) but it was interesting to go out and see actual fossils still in the ground. And with a name like Cleveland-Lloyd, how could we skip it?
We drove to Grand Junction, CO, and stretched our legs on the Dinosaur Hill Interpretive Trail. This was the site where in 1901 a paleontologist unearthed 2/3 of a huge Apatosauraus. It was an easy one-mile hike, complicated by major wind gusts. At times we wondered if we were going to be blown off the hill! Very adventurous. I held Joziah huddled to my chest the whole way because he hates the wind.
That night saw us at Grandma and Grandpa Lloyd's house near Meeker, CO. More to come. . .

| Hanna's favorite was seeing turtle shell fossils at the various museums. |
