Tickle the Ivories

Hanna participated in her first piano recital last week! I was unsure of how it would go, since she balks at playing in front of even her dad. She showed extreme courage, though, and pulled it off!
Hanna has been taking lessons for 1.5 years and she really enjoys it. For the recital she played two songs: "Promises" and "Once Upon a December" (from Anastasia.) I recorded "Promises" in HD, so the clip is a bit long to show here. She played through that one beautifully. I recorded "December" in a web-ready form, so here it is!

Way to go Hanna! That was beautiful and so good for only having lessons for a year and a half. I took lessons for 5 years and still can't play that good, if at all! Thanks for the video clip, I loved it! And Hanna, you look so big and grown up! P.S. I hope Ezra had a good birthday.

That was SUPER good! She has a talent for playing. She is growing up so fast...it is crazy. Great job Hanna! And yes, Happy Birthday to Ezra. :)

Wow, I'm so proud!! Way to go, Hanna! I remember seeing her long fingers when she was a baby and hoping she'd be a piano player. Thanks for posting this, Heather. Tell her she should keep it up so we can play duets! :)

Christmas Concert

Z ac and Sara participated in their school's Christmas concert last week. Zac is in the 4th grade and wasn't very excited to be in the chorus of the play (he wanted to be in the audience) but he was a good sport. He wore the santa hat, sang, and even played the kazoo when the time came! S ara was beyond excited for the program! She participated with the 3rd grade in a song and light stick show and did well, but her favorite part was singing with the honor choir SunShine Singers. They meet once a week after school, and Sara loves every minute of it! W arning: I took this video with my old digital camera, while holding Joziah on my lap (who occasionally fought me for the camera), and the quality is terrible. Sweet and Sour Chicken

Another sister-in-law challenge here, to post a favorite family recipe. I don't make this one all the time, but it is a true favorite of everyone here and my mom got rave reviews this Christmas when she took it to a dinner at the Boise ID Temple, where my dad works. We make it for special occasions. Sweet & Sour Chicken The following sauce will cover enough chicken to fill a 9 x 13" baking dish. You may choose whichever chicken type your family enjoys. Growing up, we used bone-in chicken pieces, but these days I like to take boneless skinless chicken breasts and cut them into strips. Sprinkle pieces of chicken with salt and pepper. Roll pieces in corn startch and then into beaten egg. Fry till golden brown, using high heat. (my Mom fries in oil, I just spray the fry pan) Put pieces of chicken into baking dish. Sauce: 3/4 cup sugar, half brown and half white 1/4 cup water or chicken stock 1/2 cup vinegar 1 Tablespoon soy sauce 1/4 cup ketchup dash of salt Heat until sugar i...
