Getting Creative

Image
Do you ever feel a need to just. . . create something? When I get this feeling I typically bake, scrapbook, or maybe attempt to write a poem (I said attempt.) Last week when the feeling hit I felt like sewing, so I searched the internet for Peasant Blouse instructions. I had the luck to find this site: http://indietutes.blogspot.com/2007/07/peasant-blouse.html This talented blogger posts directions for her creations, mainly children's clothing. The instructions must have been pretty good, because I came up with two shirts for Sara that actually look like shirts! Pretty good for no real pattern. Here is Sara wearing one of them; the other is pink. What a cutie!

Big Fish!

So we haven't truly taken our kids fishing before this summer, but I suppose the motorhome must have inspired us to more adventure because we bought a couple of poles and Kory got his fishing license. At home, Kory hooked a lightweight ball to the end of the pole (instead of a hook) for the kids to practice casting in the back yard. We went out to the Snake River, just below the Mindoka Dam, and Zane surprised us all (but mostly himself) by catching a 2 pound, 15 inch large mouth bass. Kory kept saying, "Do you want me to help?" and did help a little bit, as that bass was pretty strong. When we got it out of the water all Sara could say over and over was, "Don't touch me with that thing!" This fish was caught with the pink fishing pole, which proved to the boys that pink is every bit as cool as blue. Good job Zane!

Maiden Voyage

We took the motor home, Bacon , out for a quick trip this week. We had a lot of fun and she ran well. The only incident was a small flood, as it rained (and hailed!) all night in Ashton and the roof leaked. We didn't let a little water dampen our spirits, though. First we visited Register Rock and Massacre Rocks State Park: Then after we spent the night in a beautiful, green campground in Ashton we drove over to Mesa Falls. It was amazing. The pictures don't do it justice: On to the St. Anthony Sand Dunes: Last, some fishing near Rexburg. It turned out that we were the bait for millions of mosquitoes, so we didn't stay long. It was a neat trip and we are all looking forward to next time!

Bye-bye Birdies!

Today we said goodbye to our birds we got 5 long months ago. Hooray! The finches were nice birds, very cute, but we found that Kory and I are not "pet people," and the kids are not old enough to care for them properly. As I have said to many a person, "I already have six people to take care of. I don't need five more!" We gave them to a neighbor and ward member who loves animals (already has a dog, several cats, and a tank of fish) and whose 14-year old daughter was excited to keep them in her room. Our kids are taking it just fine, with Hanna being the saddest, but not enough so to produce tears. It might help that we've promised to compensate them for the loss of their pets. . . hope they don't drive too hard a bargain!
