Fooled?

So, which one is dinner and which one is dessert? It's pretty obvious, actually, that the "mashed potatoes and gravy" is really ice cream and caramel syrup. I could have done that with more artistry. But the "cupcakes" just about got them. It was really meatloaf with colored mashed potatoes on top. The kids knew something was up since I banished them from the kitchen during dinner prep. There were a couple of spies, and I heard whispers of "why is Mom putting frosting on meatloaf?" You couldn't mistake the smell around the house- meatloaf and cupcakes don't exactly have the same aroma! But the mashed potatoes really surprised them. In the end, it was fun, and that's what it's all about.
The other prank I played on the kids, I wish I had a picture of. I got two joined squares of toilet paper and wrote with a Sharpie, "Who goes there?" Then I floated it in the kids' toilet bowl. It was a crack up when one first discovered it, and they all had to come see. Later Hanna used the same method to leave the answer, "Lloyds go here." I think one of the greatest joys of being a parent is watching kids develop a sense of humor, and then laughing with them!
