Election Day

One of the benefits of homeschooling your children is the freedom to choose what they learn and when. Today I decided that the most important knowledge I could impart to them would be about voting! I had them watch some videos on the internet which told about democracy, voting and the political parties. Then I took them to the polls for their first voting experience, albeit through my vote. They were all very interested in the ballot, etc., and later I staged an election for the kids. Kory and I had previously shown them some of the presidential debates, and tried to help them understand what each candidate stood for, but we definitely did not tell them who the "better" candidate was. (Frankly, Kory and I do not agree on that issue!) The 4 older kids voted and the results were a tie betweeen Obama and McCain. Ezra cast the deciding vote by touching the picture of his favored candidate. And the winner of the 2008 Lloyd Children Presidential Election is..... John S. McCain
